You may have noticed the grass verges are looking slightly overgrown at this time. It has been proven that over 700 species of wildflower grow on UK's road verges - nearly 45% of our total flora. And where there are wildflowers there is wildlife - bees, butterflies, birds and bugs.
We have joined the campaign to "cut less, cut later" to encourage wildflowers and wildlife. This means that many of the verges around Old Catton have not been cut as regularly in previous years and some of the verges will remain uncut until July. Please be assured, however, that splays will be cut for road safety and visability at certain road junctions. We are also aware that with so much rain throughout May and then beautiful sunshine in early June many of the verges have become "unsightly". We are now moving forward to tidy up the village - please be patient with us!
